Job Description : Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervise students assigned to the Theatre and Dance scene shop. The scene shop is open Monday—Friday from 10 am. to 6 pm weekend hours may be required during tech periods for each show. As many as 10-15 students are in the scene shop at any one time fulfilling the “hands on” component of various theatre classes.
• Maintain safety standards and procedures in the operation of the scene shop.
• Work with Production Manager, Tech Director, Scenic Artist and Properties Manager to determine best use of student personnel and over hire during the season.
• Supervise, in conjunction with the Technical Director, the construction of all scenery.
  
  Duties include:
• Basic and finish carpentry as needed during the construction
• Soft and hard covering of scenery.
• Basic metal working.
• Appliqué of various materials to scenery prior to turning over to the scenic artisan.
• Pick-up and delivery of materials of equipment for scenery construction using company van.
• Assist other shop staff in mounting the production, including:
• Transportation of production elements from the shop to the theatre including all scenery, over-sized scenic elements & props (larger than van accommodate) masking, escape units and tools.
• All aspects of changeover related to sets including rigging, strike, set-up and clean-up.
• Be available for all possible work calls during the tech and preview weekend.
• Help to maintain and improve the facilities of the scene shop, stage areas, and offices as needed.
• Help repair and maintain technical equipment for theatre and dance performance spaces.
• Work with the T.D to maintain an accurate accounting of scenic cost for each production.
